During the the period February to August of 2015, the International Security Sector Advisory Team (DCAF/ISSAT) and Swedepeace (Swiss Justice and Security Sector Support Team ) executed three missions to Honduras, one of the most violent countries in the world. One of the key tasks was to facilitate an agreement between the Government of Honduras, the Inter-American Development Bank and Switzerland on how to develop the Government’s security sector reform (SSR) programme in 2016-2017. Support was also provided to the programme in relation to best international practise on training of police. Essential as Honduras is reforming its police and training large cadres of policemen and women.
Furthermore, the Team made a participatory assessment of the results in 2012-2015 of the NGO Alliance for Peace and Justice (Alianza para Paz y Justicia – APJ). The Alliance consist of a number of civil society organizations and is one of the key actors in the efforts to reform the justice and security sector in Honduras.
The overall purpose of the Swiss JSSR Support Team missions (2013-2015) is to backstop the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) in their efforts on human security and violence reduction in Honduras.
