Swedepeace is an independent and impartial organization which, in collaboration with a global network of partners, helps create conditions for human security and peaceful conflict resolution.


Our vision is a world where conflicts are resolved peacefully and where human rights and peace drive sustainable development.

What We Do

Swedepeace aims at improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and impact of peace and security initiatives by focusing on the interface and linkages between theory, policy and practice and by:

  • Implementing peace and human security initiatives in collaboration with partners.
  • Supporting other actors programming of peace and human security.
  • Having a constructive influence on international and national policy making and practice.
  • Encouraging and supporting development cooperation and humanitarian assistance to promote peace, human security and conflict sensitivity.
  • Supporting corporate social responsibility and sound investments in fragile states.

Areas of work

Swedepeace works within the framework of peace and human security, which include but is not limited to: financial assistance, analysis and research, policy and method development, project and programme design, implementation of projects and programmes, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, education and training, development dialogue and other activities compatible with the purpose of the Foundation.


The work of Swedepeace and its global partners shall have a strong normative foundation of key values. All work is guided by:

  • The ethical principles laid out in the UN Global Compact, by aligning operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption.
  • The firm belief that engagement in peace and security shall be based on national ownership and equal relationships with partners.
  • The conviction that gender equality is an important catalyst for peace and human security.
  • The commitment to avoid negative and promote a positive impact on conflict – conflict sensitivity.

Strategic Choices

Our strategic choices are to:

  • Act through a global network of expert institutions and individuals, where the cohesion of the relationships is based on shared values and mutually reinforcing partnerships.
  • Only engage in conflict contexts and countries where Swedepeace can bring added value to peace and human security.
  • Always use conflict analysis as a tool to assure relevance and conflict sensitivity.
  • Always strive to apply, within the framework of our assignments, recent lessons learned from best practices, the most salient research findings as well as to put into operation a variety of refined analytical methods.
  • To always be open with partners and clients regarding cost-benefit analysis and accept collaborations and assignments where Swedepeace and its network partners can make a qualitative contribution given the staff, time and cost frame.
